A pair of worn leather Chelsea boots sit on a rain-wet cobblestone street in what looks like a side alley in Florence. The boots are dark brown with a beautiful natural patina — scuffs on the toes, creased leather at the flex points, darkened edges where rain has soaked in. They've been placed as if someone just stepped out of them — slightly splayed, one boot standing straight, the other leaning against a weathered stone wall. The cobblestones glisten with recent rain, catching the warm light from an overhead streetlamp that creates a small pool of amber illumination around the boots. Beyond them, the alley recedes into a dark, out-of-focus vanishing point. Shot on a Leica M11 with the Noctilux 50mm f/0.95 wide open — the depth of field is impossibly thin, the nearer boot is razor-sharp while the second boot is already beginning to dissolve.
